Herb & Betty MartinFrom Ocean View, DE/Washington, DCI've been a handful of times3 weeks in 5-star Umbrian VillaJuly 10, 2015 Dear Suzy and Bill:For the past three weeks, your beautiful Umbrian home has been a joyous home for our family and a few friends who have enjoyed it with us. Our children and nine of our grandchildren, ages 10 years to nine months, arrived and left at different times, but for five days we were all here together, squeals of fun filling the pool by day and lawn races in the evening as we dined by the pool. The swing under the old Mulberry tree became a favorite gathering place, as we eagerly sought shade in the heat wave that has gripped all of Italy. Our day trips took us throughout Umbria, from Cannara to Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, Deruta, Norcia, Castellucio, Perugia and Gubbio. As you know, we made plans for this visit over a year ago and have dreamed of Fattoria del Gelso and Umbria since then. The reality exceeds our dreams. Our thanks for all the help and guidance you gave us before and, during our stay. Our especial thanks to Marco, who helped us in countless ways, regaled us with his Umbrian wit and humor and, with the incomparable Peppa, with whom we all fell in love, served us all manner of exquisite Umbrian fare. Grazie Mille per tutti! Herb and Betty Martin and family and friends
Ellen FlanaganFrom New York, New YorkI've been a handful of timesMangia bene, ridi spesso, ama molto. – Eat well, laugh often, love much. How can I even begin to describe the feeling of being given an experience of a lifetime? My 2 brothers, sister-in-law, niece and nephew came to Via Umbira, La Fattoria del Gelso, for a family trip. Bill, Suzy and one of their son luckily were also there. From our first night on homemade pizza, lovingly created by Marco, including a late night Nutella creation to wonderful local wines was the best way to experience our first night in Italy. Simply said; surrounded by great food, wine, family and friends. The next day, on Suzy's recommendations, we headed off to Assisi and off to find some treasures in the Deruta store. From car, biking, walking everything is so accessible. When we arrived back a table of 27 was set up in beautiful Deruta pottery without even food yet on the table. A cocktail party by the pool, meeting welcoming Italian friends of Bill and Suzy and their beautiful wines soon followed. We laughed. We ate. We drank. We watched as Marco set up an amazing firework display for my brother. The next morning, we ventured to Bevagna for an incredible lunch/early dinner (it was 4 hours) at Simone's restaurant where course after course enticed our taste buds. It was such a lovely afternoon being surrounded by the beauty of the table both in nature, people and food. That evening was capped off with an outdoor movie night set up by Bill. If someone is reading this it actually may seem unbelievable but, that is what I left feeling unbelievably taken care of, tended to and welcomed. It felt like home. I cannot thank Bill and Suzy for the experience of La Fattoria del Gelso. Everyone needs to go.
Sue and Jimmy GallagherFrom Washington, DCI've been a handful of timesI want to be there forever!I cannot imagine how it could have been better. Look forward to going back often.
Nick & Eloise GmurFrom Bellport, Long Island, NYThis is my first tripUmbria with new friendsWe enrolled with a sense of trepidation as we are independent travelers and have never toured with a group...worries were unfounded. A major attraction was the reasonable cost for one week...other tours we had looked into cost between >$4000. and almost $10,000.! The advantage here is that Suzy and Bill own the residence and meals are cooked in house, therefore no steep hotel prices. The week, for us, was magical and could not have suited us better. We cook and bake bread, have made (and drink a fair amount of) wine, make cheese, already have relatives in Europe so the wineries, cooking classes, truffle hunting, pottery, linens, AND the people could not have been more up our alley. Suzy and Bill show their love for Umbria and their varied interests in everything they had arranged for us. Also, importantly, they were able to adjust and divide the group when interests diverted. We have never eaten that much food, much less that much excellent food. The tour was a joy.

Willia HenniganFrom Washington, DCThis is my first tripCucinapaloozaJohn and I have been to La Fattoria del Gelso three times. Once for the Food and Wine Tour in the fall and twice for the Cucinapalooza in the spring. Each time we have joined Bill and Suzy for one of the tours it has been different and so much fun. We visited different wineries, experienced different chefs and even better we visited some of the same places again and again per our requests. The special people and places in Umbria keep luring us back again and again. Suzy developed a tour for John and another guest who wanted to taste the chef's daily creations but not learn the finer points of how to cook a dish. They had the "Marco Tour" around Umbria and beyond. Nightly over a new feast we were able to learn about different places we wanted to visit again. Often the chef joined us for the meal and we ended up talking, singing and laughing late into the night. What fun. We are trying to decide when our next visit is to Italy.
Valerie RaccugliaFrom Commack, NYThis is my first tripYour Italian Home Away From HomeThis was actually my 4th visit to La Fattoria del Gelso but the first with a group of friends. A couple of friends had already been to Umbria and the other two had never been to Italy. The two friends that had been to Umbria before said after the stay at the villa they can honestly say the really "never had been" to Umbria. The stay at the villa and the trips that Suzy & Wendy helped to put together were AMAZING! There wasn't a highlight to our stay because the WHOLE stay was the highlight from two dinners with Maria Pia, to the tours (truffle hunting, cooking classes, choclate making class), to pizza night with Marco and who can forget painting with the Geribis!!! Too quote my friend after out stay "Valerie, I couldn't even discribe how wonderful this trip was to me. I would NEVER had seen Italy/Umbria the way I did with you. The stay at the villa was just magical." So I guess you can say that NOTHING beats a stay at Fattoria del Gelso!!
Sharon M.From Midlothian, VirginiaI've been a handful of timesWelcome to a home-away-from home!I have stayed in a number of Italian villas over the past few years and this was by far the very best! The grounds are lovely with a pool and a well-appointed outdoor area for lounging, eating, etc. The bedrooms have plenty of storage and room to spread out. And the bed linens are of the highest quality ( lovingly ironed by Maria Pia) and the bathrooms are more than adequate. ( Just be sure to bring your own bath soap. The slivers of soap that are provided are just not adequate, but I've never seen anything better in any other Italian villa or hotel.) There is great attention to detail in this villa, from the beautiful Deruta pottery and dishware to the locally made table linens. Would recommend whether you want to stay put and relax or explore all of the near-by Umbrian towns.
