Via Umbria Celebrates the Island of Sardinia

Next week, Via Umbria celebrates the Mediterranean cuisine and culture of the mystical island of Sardinia with a series of events, including an intimate Demonstration Dinner, a CYOB (Choose Your Own Bottle) Dinner featuring Sardinian staples, a Bottomless Brunch with a Mediterranean-inspired menu, and week long Sardinian wine specials in the café. There’s no better way to discover and celebrate the beautiful island province, shaped by its own language and traditions and steeped in its own cuisine and culture!

On Thursday, July 21 at 7:00pm Executive Chef Johanna Hellrigl invites guests to join her around the kitchen island for a Sardinian Affair cooking demonstration and dinner as she creates staples of the Sardinian kitchen with a special emphasis on malloreddus — the “national” pasta of Sardinia, a sort of gnocchi made from semolina and flavored with saffron. Interested guests will get to step into the kitchen with Chef as she teaches you the secrets to this iconic Sardinian treat and other island specialties before retiring to the communal dining table for an unforgettable meal. Dinner is $75 per person and includes a welcome cocktail and a glass of wine. Reservations required.

On Friday, July 22 at 7:00pm Via Umbria invites you to take a seat at the communal table in our Laboratorio demonstration kitchen and join with friends and neighbors for a Coastal Cuisine Dinner, featuring the cuisine of Sardinia. While this island “nation” is surrounded by water, traditional Sardinian food has focused much more on land animals and grains - a tradition we will respect. From seafood to su porcheddu (roast suckling pig) you can’t go wrong with this menu straight from the shores of the Mediterranean. This dinner is served CYOB (Choose Your Own Bottle), and guests are encouraged to arrive early to taste wines in our retail wine cellar and purchase a glass or bottle from the market to pair with their meal. CYOB wines are sold at retail prices in Via Umbria’s wine cellar, enabling guests to enjoy a variety wines with their meal at retail prices, avoiding the usual restaurant markup. Dinner is served as a single seating at 7:00 pm and is $65 per person. Reservations required.

For those looking for more opportunities to explore Sardinian wines and foods, on Saturday, July 23 at 7:30pm Via Umbria hosts a Surveying Sardinia dinner, an evening dedicated to wining and dining your way through this coastal region. Guests will enjoy an elaborate four course Sardinian dinner around our communal Laboratorio chef’s table, with a menu that includes our favorite su porcheddu. Each course will be paired with a specially selected glass of wine artfully curated to highlight the flavors of the dish and the region. Dinner is served as a single seating at 7:30pm and is $110 per person. Reservations required.

On Sunday, July 24th at 1:00pm Via Umbria’ usual Sunday Brunch goes Mediterranean with a Bottomless Bellini Brunch featuring a menu inspired by Sardinian classics. Choose from a delicious selection of themed favorites and Italian twists on American standards on our brunch menu as you enjoy bottomless Bellinis Mimosas, or Bloody Marys. Brunch starts at 1:00 pm and is $35 per person. Reservations recommended.
