Savor Sicilian Seafood Favorites in DC

Next week at Via Umbria, a unique Italian Restaurant and market in Georgetown, step into Sicily through a series of events that highlight the unique flavors and cuisine of this Mediterranean island paradise.

This gustatory exploration of Sicily starts off with a Demonstration Dinner on Thursday, August 25 at 7:00 pm, where guests will not only get to feast, but learn about this unique cuisine from Via Umbria’s Head Chef Johanna Hellrigl. For those who are looking to get their hands dirty, guests can assist in the creation of classic Sicilian dishes like Pasta alla Norma, that features the flavors of the coast. Thursday Demo Dinners cost $75 per person, and the pricing includes a welcome cocktail, the demonstration, a three course meal, and wine tastings with each course. Reservations are required.

Friday at Via Umbria features the CYOB Dinner series, that allows guests the unique opportunity to taste wines with a member of Via Umbria’s well-versed wine staff and select a perfect pairing for purchase (at retail price), to accompany their meal. This week’s Sicilian Spectacular will include Busiate alla Trapanese (housemade durum wheat flour pasta with a Sicilian tomato almond pesto), Orata alla Mediterranea con Caponata (baked mediterranean white fish with eggplant & tomato caponata), and a Semifreddo di Cassata Siciliana (Sicilian ricotta cake with ice cream). Friday CYOB dinners cost $65 per person and pricing includes the cost of the dinner and wine tasting, beverages during dinner are purchased separately and are not included in the price. Dinner begins at 7:00pm, reservations are required as space is limited.

Guests interested in delving deeper into the cuisine and wines of the Sicilian region, should look no further than the Saturday Wine and Dine: Savoring Sicily event. Not only will this dinner feature flavorful and exciting dishes like Involtini di Pesce Spada (swordfish involtini with pine nuts and raisins), and Perciatelli con le Sarde (fresh Sicilian sardine and fennel pasta), but it will also highlight the depth of flavors and influences of Sicilian cuisine with expertly picked wine pairings for each course. Saturday Wine and Dine dinners cost $110 per person and pricing includes the cost of the dinner and wine pairings. Dinner begins at 7:30pm, reservations are required as space is limited.

To round out the weekend, guests can choose the more casual, but still authentic, bottomless bellini sunday brunch. Bottomless Bellin Brunch on Sunday will feature a menu inspired by traditional Italian flavors and introduce Italian twists on the American brunch standards, all paired with bottomless Bellinis or Bloody Marys. Guests will enjoy family style antipasti and side dishes, with their choice of entree, and of course a dessert selection. Brunch starts at 1:00 PM and is $35 per person. Reservations are recommended, as seating is limited.
