Via Umbria Celebrates Lambrusco Week July 12-19
Washington, D.C. – This week, Via Umbria celebrates all things Lambrusco. The popular, effervescent red wine from Italy’s Emilia Romagna region will be featured front and center, with a series of events including a Lambrusco themed demonstration dinner, a CYOB (Choose Your Own Bottle) dinner introducing dishes from Emilia Romagna, a Bottomless Lambrusco Brunch, and week long Lambrusco wine specials in the cafe, there’s no better way to discover and celebrate this light, refreshing, sparkling red wine that matches perfectly with a variety of foods and the summer heat.
On Thursday, July 14 at 7:00pm Executive Chef Johanna Hellrigl invites guests to join her around the kitchen island for a cooking demonstration as she creates a multi-course Italian feast that features dishes designed to highlight and heighten the flavors of Lambrusco. Guests are encouraged to join in the conversation and help prepare the meal, as Chef Johanna creates course after course of Italian delicacies right in front of you. Dinner is $75 per person and includes a welcome cocktail and a glass of wine with each course. Reservations required.
On Friday, July 15 at 7:00pm Via Umbria invites you to take a seat at the communal table and join with friends and neighbors to celebrate the cuisine of Emilia Romagna, considered by many to be the epitome of Italian cuisine. With a four course menu that features traditional dishes such as housemade pappardelle bolognese, roast duck, and torta di pesche e amaretti, guests can expect to be transported to Italy without ever leaving Georgetown. This dinner is served CYOB (Choose Your Own Bottle) and guests are encouraged to arrive early for a Lambrusco wine tasting which will begin at 6:30, affording them the opportunity to purchase a glass or bottle from the market to pair with their meal. CYOB wines are sold at retail prices in Via Umbria’s wine cellar, enabling guests to sample a variety of wines at their meal at retail prices, avoiding the usual restaurant markup. Dinner is served as a single seating at 7:00 pm and is $65 per person. Reservations required.
On Sunday, July 17th at 1:00pm Via Umbria’ usual Sunday Brunch goes Lambrusco with a Bottomless Lambrusco Brunch. Choose from a delicious selection of Italian favorites and Italian twists on American standards on our brunch menu as you enjoy bottomless Lambrusco, mimosas, or bloody marys. Brunch starts at 1:00 pm and is $35 per person. Reservations recommended.
All week long (July 12-19) Lambrusco will be featured in Via Umbria’s caffe and available by the glass or by the bottle. Guests can enjoy the effervescent refreshment along with fresh pasta at lunch, as an afternoon pick me up to escape the heat or at Via Umbria’s daily afternoon spritz o’clock happy hour.
